In the World Archery Para Series 2026 held in Ahmedabad, Indian archer Sheetal Devi won the gold medal in the women's compound event. She led India to a one-sided victory in the third leg of the World Archery Para Series on Wednesday, (9th). In a thrilling shoot-off match against Kazakhstan's Ayzada Sedan, Sheetal scored 9 points while Sedan scored 10 points to seal victory. India won a total of 15 medals in the event, including four gold, three silver and eight bronze medals.

Sheetal defeated Sedan of Kazakhstan in an exciting match

World number one Sheetal defeated Kazakhstan's Ayzada Sedan. Both archers scored perfect 30 points in their first round and after the second round the points were tied 59-59. In the third round, Aizad scored 28 and Sheetal scored 27, giving Aizad a one-point lead. The fourth round ended in a 29-29 draw, leaving the Indian archers one point behind entering the final. Sheetal excelled under pressure and scored 29 points, while Aizad scored 28 points. This tied the points at 144-144 and the match went to a shoot-off. In the end, the Indian archer scored a thrilling victory. With the gold medal at stake, Sheetal scored a perfect 10 points, while Aizad managed only 9 points.

Won bronze medal in compound mixed team event

Earlier, Sheetal had won a bronze medal in the compound mixed team event with Toman Kumar. Along with this gold medal, he has won two medals in this event. Sheetal and Toman defeated Iraq's Sarah Al Hameed and Abbas Kadhim 157-145 in the bronze medal match. The Indian pair scored 39 points each in the first three rounds and a perfect 40 in the last round, losing only three points in four rounds.

Other athletes also won medals for India

Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh also played a key role in India's impressive performance. He teamed up with Bhavna to win the gold medal in the para-recurve mixed team event. The Indian pair dominated China's Liang Qiurong and Jia Lei in the final with a one-sided 6-0 victory. Harvinder and Bhavna won the first set 35-31 and the second 36-33. The third set ended 34-32.

Bhavna then won another medal in the women's para-recurve bronze medal match by defeating India's own Rajshree Rathore 6-0. India also won bronze in the women's para-compound individual event, with Sarita beating China's Wang Huiting 141-140. Toman Kumar won another bronze medal in the men's individual para-compound event, defeating Iraq's Abbas Kadhim 143-138. This was his second medal of the tournament.
