Matthias Jaissle has said Amar Dedic’s hamstring issue “does not look too serious”, with Newcastle still waiting for further confirmation on the defender’s condition.

Dedic suffered the problem during Newcastle’s Carabao Cup victory over Millwall, but the initial indications have left Jaissle optimistic that the setback will not keep him out for an extended period.

The Newcastle manager also called on young players Baz Toure and Aladji Bamba to remain patient as they continue adjusting and progressing within his senior squad.

“With Baz, it’s really clear. He’s a young lad,” Jaissle said. “You see the steps in training. He’s really committed.

“But Harvey [Barnes] is performing on a high level, so sometimes you get less playing time.

“It’s the same with AB. We will give them time [to adapt and develop]. We’re not pushing them in getting more minutes. We’re supporting them.”

Looking back at his team’s start to the season before Monday’s match against Leeds, Jaissle said: “We are fine. We are happy with the start we’ve had definitely.

“But the Premier League is the Premier League. Every matchday it’s top opponents. Again, against Leeds it will be a tough away match. We want to continue that journey. We are ambitious but we are realistic.”
