New Delhi. Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian has reached Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS summit being hosted by India. Before the BICS Summit, Iranian President had a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi today. Modi and Pejeshkian discussed India-Iran relations, bilateral strategy of both the countries, current situation in the West Asia region. This is the second meeting between Modi and Pejeshkian in recent times. Earlier on August 31, the two leaders had held bilateral talks during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek. Describing his meeting with the Iranian President, Modi wrote on Twitter, “Continuing meaningful talks from Bishkek to Delhi.”
Modi said, it was a pleasure to meet the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pejeshkian. This visit of the Iranian President is also special because it is his first visit to India. We discussed India-Iran friendship. We believe that we must move forward with a strategy that is sustainable in the long run and that benefits both parties. The current situation in the West Asia region was also discussed. India is fully committed to its efforts towards lasting peace.
On the other hand, the Iranian President also addressed the Leaders Session of BRICS Business Forum. Pejeshkian said, today the world is going through its most difficult period. Economic means are being used to create political pressure. In the last few years, many types of sanctions have been imposed on Iran. But in recent months, this pressure has reached an even more dangerous level due to the active military aggression of the US and Israel against Iran. Apart from the loss of life and property, this active aggression has once again highlighted an important truth that economic security cannot be separated from national and regional security. Whenever a country's trade, energy, infrastructure or financial systems come under political or military pressure, the effects extend beyond that country's borders and can affect regional stability, even global stability.
