UPI Tap-to-Pay: Technology Desk: Now making payment through UPI is going to be even easier. To make payment, neither will there be any need to scan the QR code nor will there be any need to enter the UPI ID. NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has launched Tap-to-Pay feature for UPI.

This feature was introduced on the second day of Global Fintech Fest held in Mumbai. With its help, users will be able to make payment just by taking their phone near the POS machine.

UPI Tap-to-Pay: How will Tap-to-Pay feature work?

To use this feature, you will not need to open the UPI app every time. The phone will have to be unlocked and taken to the POS machine. The amount entered in the machine will be transferred from your UPI account.

There will be no need to enter UPI PIN for payments up to Rs 5,000. At the same time, on payment of more than Rs 5,000, UPI PIN will have to be entered for security.

Will be able to make payment even in low internet

According to NPCI, the Tap-to-Pay feature can work even in areas with low or no internet connection. In this, along with UPI payment, support for RuPay credit card on UPI and offline transactions will also be available.

This means that even if the mobile network is weak at some place, payment can be made through Tap-to-Pay under some circumstances.

Feature will also be available on PhonePe, Google Pay and other apps

To use Tap-to-Pay, there will be no need to depend on any particular UPI app. This facility can also be used through UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM and Paytm, provided the concerned app and device support this feature.

However, Tap-to-Pay is not an entirely new concept. Contactless payment facility is already available in services like Samsung Wallet and Google. But with the introduction of such features with UPI, its use may become easier.

It is necessary to have NFC in the phone

To use Tap-to-Pay, both your phone and POS machine must have NFC (Near Field Communication) technology.

NFC is a short-range wireless technology. Through this, data can be shared by bringing two NFC supporting devices closer. Generally this technique works at a distance of about 4 centimeters or less.

NFC technology is also used in debit and credit cards for contactless payments.

NFC is useful not only for payment but also for these purposes.

NFC is not used only for payment. With its help, some Bluetooth speakers, headphones and other smart accessories can also be easily connected without the lengthy pairing process.

Overall, UPI Tap-to-Pay can be very useful for those who want to make quick payments or are in places where the internet connection is not good. Now it will be enough to just take the phone to the POS machine for payment.
