Legal matters involving cricket families rarely stay out of public attention. This developing story combines a serious legal case with cricketing updates. Here is the complete picture behind both developments.

Mohammed Shami’s Brother Faces FIR Following Woman’s Allegations

Mohammed Shami’s brother faces FIR in Lucknow

An FIR was registered at Lucknow’s Ashiyana police station recently against Mohammed Kaif. Kaif is the brother of Indian pacer Mohammed Shami. This FIR followed a woman’s allegations regarding sexual assault under marriage promises.

According to her complaint, she met Kaif through a mutual friend in 2020. She alleged Kaif promised marriage despite knowing she was already divorced. She claimed the assault occurred at a Kolkata hotel in December 2023.

Details Behind the Woman’s Allegations

The woman said she worked as cabin crew for an airline. She claimed Kaif eventually discouraged her from continuing that job. She alleged marriage discussions continued after the IPL auction in December 2025.

She said she met Kaif’s mother and brother Haseeb in May 2026. She alleged Haseeb threatened her during that particular meeting afterward. Police registered Kaif’s FIR under rape- sections following this complaint.

Haseeb was separately named regarding the alleged threats made during that meeting. It’s important to note these remain allegations without any judicial finding yet.

Mohammed Shami’s Cricketing Future Remains Separate Story

Separately, attention has also turned towards Mohammed Shami’s own cricketing future. The 36-year-old pacer could reportedly be considered for a Test comeback. He hasn’t played Tests since the 2023 World Test Championship final though.

His recent domestic performances have genuinely strengthened his case for selection. He took 7 wickets across 3 Duleep Trophy matches recently. He also impressed with strong bowling spells on batting-friendly Chennai pitches.

Shami’s Domestic Form Strengthens His Selection Case

During the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy season, Shami claimed 37 wickets overall. He achieved this impressive tally across just 13 innings that season. He has successfully returned from ankle surgery undergone in 2024.

He has adapted his approach, bowling shorter but genuinely intense spells now. His ability to hit good lengths and generate skid remains valuable. This could make him a useful option for India’s upcoming Test assignments.
