Indian Railways AI CCTV pantry car: Indian Railways is now taking a strict stand regarding the quality and cleanliness of the food served in trains. AI-enabled CCTV cameras will be installed in pantry cars and base kitchens of trains. With the help of this camera, the entire process from food preparation to its packing and supply can be monitored round the clock. Currently this new system will be started from East Central Railway.
Most passengers use the train’s pantry car or catering service during long distance journeys. However, there have been frequent complaints and questions regarding the level of hygiene that is maintained during food preparation. Railways has decided to resort to technology for a permanent solution to this problem.
Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar visited the war room of IRCTC in New Delhi and reviewed the catering services. Meanwhile, emphasis was placed on strengthening the surveillance system to provide quality and clean food to passengers.
According to the report, a network of CCTV cameras will be installed in 73 pantry cars, train side vending service and 62 base kitchens running in mail and express trains of East Central Railway. This will bring transparency in the entire process from cooking to packing and delivery and immediate action can be taken if any irregularities are found.
How will AI cameras work?
Today’s CCTV cameras are not just limited to video recording. The camera can scan footage automatically with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and smart detection system.
For example, if there is dirt in the kitchen or pantry, if the chef is cooking without gloves or cap as per rules or if there is any defect to hygiene, the AI system will immediately detect it and send an alert to the monitoring team. With this technology, railway passengers will get safer and cleaner food.
