The Indian women's team refused to accept the trophy from Pakistani Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. During the presentation ceremony at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (September 13), Naqvi stood on the stage to present the trophy to Team India but no one from the Indian camp came.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia said that Naqvi was already told that the Deputy Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) would hand over the trophy to Team India but Naqvi did not agree. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and ACC Chairman Naqvi remained adamant that no one except him will give the trophy to the Indian team.

Naqvi becomes Jaleel again

Mohsin Naqvi was also on the stage last year to give the trophy to the Indian men's team but the team captained by Suryakumar Yadav refused to take the trophy from his hands. Naqvi kept waiting with his mouth hanging for a long time, after which Pakistan was greatly disgraced. This time also Naqvi had to face humiliation. When he was leaving the stadium, the spectators also raised slogans of 'trophy thief'.

Even in Pakistan he is being called good and bad. Pakistani people believe that when they know that Indian players will not take the trophy from them, then they should give up this insistence.

Jai Shah had taken a big step

There is no provision in the ACC rules that the chairman will give the trophy to the Asia Cup winner. Jay Shah was the ACC Chairman during the 2022 Men's Asia Cup but he did not even participate in the presentation ceremony after the final match played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistani players might have objected to taking medals or trophies from him, to avoid which he did not even go to the stadium to watch the title match. The then champion Sri Lankan team was handed over the trophy by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva.
