Pantry Car AI-enabled CCTV : To make the railway journey memorable, eating pure food in the train is very important. Now Railways is going to take a big step to improve the quality and cleanliness of food. Railways is going to further strengthen the monitoring system regarding cleanliness and safety of train food. Preparations are being made to install CCTV cameras with AI technology in the Pantry Car and Base Kitchen of trains in the East Central Railway (ECR) zone. With this, the process from cooking to packing and reaching the passengers can be monitored. At present, this system will be started with premium trains running on the East Central Railway route.

The purpose of the new system of Railways is to improve the cleanliness and quality of food in railway catering. With the help of AI-enabled CCTV cameras, the activities happening in the Pantry Car and Base Kitchen will be continuously monitored. Railway officials hope that with this, any negligence during preparation, packing and supply of food will be detected quickly. If any deficiency to cleanliness or food handling is noticed then action can be taken on it in time.
According to the report, there are 73 pantry cars and train side vending services running in mail and express trains of East Central Railway. At the same time, the number of base kitchens has increased to 62. A network of CCTV cameras will be installed at these places.
