Israel Hezbollah Attack: IDF said that the command center of Hezbollah’s ‘Badr’ unit was also present in the same complex. The Army has described it as an important military base of the organization.
Israel Hezbollah Attack: Beirut. Israel has claimed to have destroyed a large tunnel network of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon by blasting it. According to the Israeli Army, this tunnel was more than 2 kilometers long. According to Lebanon’s government news agency, the explosion was so strong that tremors like a 4.1 magnitude earthquake were felt in the surrounding areas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu linked it to mission completion after the action.
Rockets and explosives found in the tunnel
According to the Israeli military, Iranian-made rockets, missiles and drones were stored in the tunnel complex. During the search, machine guns, anti-tank missiles and a large number of landmines and explosives were also claimed to have been found. The IDF said the command center of Hezbollah’s ‘Badr’ unit was also located in the same compound. The Army has described it as an important military base of the organization.
IDF released footage from inside the tunnel
The Israeli Army has also released a video of the tunnel network built under Ali al-Taher hill. In the footage, soldiers are seen searching inside the tunnels. According to the IDF, about 50 Hezbollah fighters were hiding in the area after the ceasefire in June. The army claimed that several fighters were killed during the operation. It is also said that about 12 dead bodies were found during the search.

Tunnel network was ready in 20 years
According to Israel, it took about 20 years to prepare this tunnel network. Prime Minister Netanyahu claimed that funding for its construction was received from Iran. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz called it a terrorist network. Israel says it has gained control over both above- and below-ground parts of the area.
‘Badr’ unit, an important military unit of Hezbollah
Hezbollah’s ‘Badr’ unit is considered one of the main military units in southern Lebanon. It is said to be active in the areas north of the Litani River. Its name is to the Battle of Badr in Islamic history. According to Israel, the command center of this unit was present in the tunnel complex. After the action, tension in the area has increased further.
Israeli attacks increase again in southern Lebanon
In the last few days, there have been reports of Israeli attacks again intensifying in southern Lebanon. An agreement was reached between Israel and Lebanon in June following talks between the US and Iran. After this there was a decline in attacks for some time. According to AFP, during the talks, a proposal was also made to give control of Ali al-Taher hill to the Lebanese Army, but Hezbollah did not accept it.
Claim of large number of deaths in the attacks
According to Lebanese officials, more than 4,300 people have died in Israeli attacks since March. Israeli forces are still present in a security zone created in a part of southern Lebanon. There is a possibility of further increase in tension in the area after the latest action. However, independent verification of both sides’ claims and the death toll remains challenging to varying degrees.
