Congress claims – The situation is more serious in rural India, where there has been a huge decline of nine percent in real wages.
New Delhi. Congress on Monday targeted the Central Government over Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation and took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he has been saying that everything is healthy, but in reality everything is expensive. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on 'X' that as per official data, WPI inflation has remained around 10 percent for four consecutive months.
He claimed that crores of families are facing difficulties due to the continuous increase in the prices of essential commodities. Citing data from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the Congress leader said that after adjusting for inflation, wages have also declined continuously and have declined by 5.7 percent since April.
He claimed that the situation is more serious in rural India, where real wages have fallen by a whopping nine percent. He also said that there has been a decline in rural wages even at the nominal level. Nominal terms mean straight cash in hand without adding inflation. Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi, Ramesh said, the Prime Minister keeps saying that everything is fine, but in reality everything is expensive.
