Mumbai: Meghna Gulzar’s investigative thriller Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any visual cuts.

According to reports, the Examining Committee asked the makers to make only one modification to a dialogue in the film. A word in a dialogue spoken by Kareena’s character Aajuni was replaced with the word ‘Minister’.

The modification was made as requested, following which the film received its censor certificate on September 11.

No cuts to violent scenes or dialogues

The CBFC certification reportedly leaves the film’s visual content untouched.

Despite Daayra being an investigative thriller expected to contain intense and violent sequences, none of the visual scenes were removed or shortened during the certification process.

The film’s hard-hitting dialogues have also reportedly remained intact.

The only change requested by the Examining Committee was to “suitably modify” a dialogue delivered by Aajuni at around the two-hour mark. As part of the modification, one word in the dialogue was replaced with ‘Minister’.

After the change was incorporated, the film was cleared by the CBFC on September 11.

Daayra gets ‘A’ certificate

The adult certification means Daayra will be restricted to audiences aged 18 and above when it arrives in cinemas.

The censor certificate reportedly lists the film’s duration as 143.16 minutes, making the investigative thriller approximately 2 hours, 23 minutes and 16 seconds long.

The certification comes just days before the film’s scheduled theatrical release.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra features Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The film is positioned as an investigative thriller and is expected to explore a serious and intense narrative.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s 10th ‘A’ certificate film

The ‘A’ certification makes Daayra the tenth film in Kareena Kapoor Khan’s career to receive an adults-only certificate from the CBFC.

Her earlier films that received an ‘A’ rating include Ajnabee (2001), Chameli (2003), Dev (2004), Omkara (2006), Kurbaan (2009), Heroine (2012), Udta Punjab (2016), Veere Di Wedding (2018) and The Buckingham Murders (2024).

The list spans different phases of Kareena’s career and includes films across genres, from crime dramas and intense relationship stories to socially themed films and thrillers.

With Daayra, she now joins the list of films in her filmography that have been cleared specifically for adult audiences.

Meghna Gulzar film releases on September 18

Daayra is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 18.

The absence of visual cuts means audiences will reportedly see the film’s violent sequences as presented by the filmmakers, while its hard-hitting dialogues have also remained intact.

The single dialogue modification requested by the CBFC was completed before certification, allowing the film to proceed towards its theatrical release.

With the film carrying an adults-only certificate and featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in an investigative thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra is set to arrive in theatres with its original visual treatment largely preserved.
