Ultraviolette Automotive, a rapidly emerging two-wheeler manufacturer in the Indian electric vehicle market, has announced its major expansion in Tamil Nadu. Amid the state's industrial policies and better business environment, the company has decided to make a huge investment of around ₹779 crore (approximately ₹800 crore) to set up a huge new manufacturing unit in the Hosur-Shoolagiri (Kristagiri) region. This investment, which will be done in a phased manner over the next five years, will open new doors of employment in this South Indian state and will give a tremendous boost to the local economy.

Under this mega project, the company is constructing its new 'BIGGA' factory in Hosur. The commencement of this plant is estimated to create approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new direct and indirect employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. This will prove to be a golden opportunity for local youth and technically trained employees. This agreement with the state government is being considered a huge milestone in the field of electric mobility in Tamil Nadu. After companies like Ola and Ather, now with the entry of UltraViolet, Hosur is fast emerging as a major EV hub.

The initial production capacity of this state-of-the-art plant will be around 2.5 lakh (2,50,000) electric vehicles annually. Considering the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the market and the inclination of customers, this capacity can be doubled in future i.e. 5 lakh units annually. This new investment by the company is mainly being made to expand its mass-market segment and to speed up the production of new models. Apart from the current plant located near Bengaluru, this new factory will take the scale of the company to a different level.

Ultraviolette has till now been known for its high-performance and premium electric motorcycles like the F77. But through this new investment and plant, the company is now going to expand its foothold in the mass-market and affordable segments as well. The company is preparing to launch its much awaited 'Shockwave' motorcycle and 'Tesseract' electric scooter in the market in the coming time. The company plans to offer these scooters and bikes at budget-friendly prices, which will give tough competition to giants like Ola Electric and Ather in the domestic market.

This new manufacturing plant will not only meet India's domestic needs, but will also be developed as a major international export hub. The company plans to export a major portion of its total production to more than 20 countries across the world, including Europe and Latin America. At present, the share of global exports in the total sales of the company is about 15 percent, which can increase to 25 percent after the full commissioning of this new plant.

The company's main objective behind choosing Hosur for this entire project is to take advantage of its proximity to their Research and Development (R&D) center in Bengaluru and strong automotive supplier network. Amidst the e-mobility vision of the government and the rapidly changing auto sector in the country, this big bet of Ultraviolette will play an important role in deciding the direction of India's electric vehicle industry.
