Unified Payment Interface, or UPI, is widely known and used today for small to large transactions. The number of people using UPI has increased rapidly in the last few years. Many countries around the world are also adopting this digital payment system. However, recent discussions and concerns have emerged regarding UPI transactions, suggesting that users may be charged fees for certain transactions. A survey was conducted on this matter, in which people's apprehensions were revealed. Today we are going to discuss which UPI transactions may attract charges.
Concerns about UPI fees:
Recently, news that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was considering imposing fees on UPI payments sparked widespread discussion and concerns. Later the Finance Ministry clarified that no such proposal had been made. Despite this clarification, various questions are roaming in the minds of people. A local survey was conducted, where about 73% of the participants expressed that if the fee was imposed, they would consider stopping using UPI.
How charges apply:
Currently, there are no charges for making payments through UPI. However, many UPI apps are currently charging platform fees for recharging mobile accounts. Through these apps, an amount ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 5 is being collected from the users for mobile recharge. Some users have raised complaints about these allegations on social media, although these allegations have been in effect for several months. Additionally, some users claim that they have been charged fees for transactions.
