The letter has drawn criticism from the Patiala AAP leadership, which describes it as a veiled effort to influence voters and an improper use of public data for an opinion survey.

Tejinder Mehta, the AAP’s district president (urban), has criticized the message, calling it political propaganda meant to sway voters. He voiced worries that the Central Government would use comments to get information about public opinion and party chances in certain seats for the next Lok Sabha elections.

Mehta also called out the message, saying it violated the rule of conduct since it mentioned the Government of India rather than the official BJP channel.

Additionally, he said that they had alerted the party’s top leadership about the BJP’s use of WhatsApp for political propaganda.

“Viksit Bharat Sampark” sent a WhatsApp message to a number of Indian WhatsApp users asking for recommendations and input from the locals about government policies and projects.

A letter from the prime minister outlining government programs including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Matru Vandana Yojana, etc. is included in the message’s attached PDF file. The letter also requests public feedback on these and other government projects and schemes.
