Nagpur. A shopkeeper was killed in Mahalaxmi Nagar of Manewada for making indecent remarks on a girl walking on the road. This incident has created panic in the entire area. Police have detained 3 people including 2 girls for questioning. The deceased was said to be Ranjit Babulal Rathod (28), resident of Gyaneshwar Nagar, Manewada Road. Ranjeet used to run a readymade clothes and grocery shop. Those arrested include Akash Dinesh Raut (25), resident of Vijayalakshmi Pandit Nagar, Jayashree Deepak Panjhare (24), resident of Lokmanya Nagar, Akola and Savita Yashwant Sayre (24), resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Wadi.

According to the police, on Saturday night, Jayshree and Savita reached in front of Bakde Auditorium on Manewada Road in a cab at 11 pm. At this time Ranjeet was standing at a nearby pan stall and smoking a cigarette. He started staring at both of them and made objectionable remarks. Jayashree and Savita reprimanded him. Amidst the chaos, Jayshree called her friend Sudesh Raut’s brother Akash. Within some time, Akash reached there on his motorcycle. By then Ranjeet had reached Mahalaxmi Nagar. Akash stopped Ranjeet and asked for his answer. A scuffle started between the two.

Meanwhile, Akash took out a knife and stabbed Ranjeet on his chest, stomach and neck. There was a torrent of blood and Ranjeet collapsed there. All three fled from there in a vehicle. There was panic among the local citizens. Ranjeet’s family got information about the incident. Citizens also informed the police. He was taken to the medical hospital for treatment where the doctor declared him dead as soon as he examined him. Hudkeshwar SHO Kailash Deshmane reached the spot with his team.

The police examined the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding premises. Due to which the clue of Akash and the girls was found. The police took him into custody on Sunday. Even though the accused are citing a dispute over making objectionable remarks, the police suspect that Jayshree was having an old dispute with Ranjeet. That is why the accused are being rigorously interrogated. Ranjeet’s family is shocked by this incident. His wife is a housewife and has 4 daughters.
