WhatsApp, owned by Meta, announced to the Delhi High Court that it would shut down if required to break message encryption in India. Its legal team emphasized that compromising encryption would erode user trust. The court was discussing petitions filed by WhatsApp and Meta against Rule 4(2) of the Information Technology Rules, 2021.
