Instant messaging app WhatsApp is the most used app worldwide. Recently, while presenting its views before the Delhi High Court, WhatsApp has made it clear that if it is forced to break the encryption, then WhatsApp will stop its service in India. This question is arising in the minds of many people that why has WhatsApp threatened to leave India. Let us tell you that the company has made this point while challenging the Information Technology Rules 2021 (IT Rules 2021).

WhatsApp says that WhatsApp End-To-End Encryption feature works to keep the privacy of users secure. Because of this feature, only the sender and receiver of the message can know what is written in the message.

WhatsApp put this matter in the High Court

Advocate Tejas Karia, appearing on behalf of WhatsApp, told the court that we are working in India as a platform. If we are forced to break the encryption security feature then WhatsApp will leave India.

Tejas Karia says that millions of users use WhatsApp because of its encryption security feature. At present there are more than 40 crore WhatsApp users in India. Not only this, he has also argued that the rules are not only weakening encryption but also the privacy of the users.

WhatsApp's lawyer said that there is no such rule anywhere in the world except India, not only this he emphasized that there is no such rule even in Brazil.

Government's stand on WhatsApp Encryption

Advocate Kirtiman Singh, representing the government, defended the rules and said that in view of today's environment, the need to trace the sender of the message has been emphasized. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, Delhi High Court will now hear this matter on August 14.
