New Delhi: WhatsApp is in the dock of Delhi High Court regarding one of its features. In this, the company has been stressed on turning off end-to-end encryption. A big statement from the company has now come out on this. WhatsApp told the Delhi High Court that if it is forced to break message encryption, the messaging platform will effectively be shut down in India.

WhatsApp said end-to-end encryption protects user privacy by ensuring that only the sender and receiver can access the message. Tejas Karia, appearing for WhatsApp, told the division bench that if we are asked to break encryption, WhatsApp leaves the country. Karia said that people use WhatsApp because of the privacy features it offers.
WhatsApp 400 million users in India
India forms the largest market for this platform. There are 40 crore users of WhatsApp in India, who use it as a messaging app. The company keeps bringing many special features for its customers every day, which helps in giving a better experience to the users.
Why is India insisting on stopping end-to-end encryption?
Actually, the Central Government had announced the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 on February 25, 2021. It says that now big social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will have to follow the new rules. It said that companies will have to take care of the privacy policy. Also, such efforts will have to be made through which users are neither able to create nor upload restricted content.
