It was 6 o'clock in the morning. A crowd had gathered outside the house of 45 year old Anurag Singh. The scene was very scary. Blood was visible outside and inside the house. Three children were lying in a blood soaked condition in the courtyard outside the house. These three children belonged to Anurag and his wife Priyanka. On the other hand, Anurag's brother Ajit was shedding tears. People asked him how all this happened?

Ajit just told him that brother killed everyone. Some people went inside the house and some went outside to the blood soaked children in the courtyard. He saw that Anurag's elder daughter Arna (12) had stopped breathing. But Arvi (7) and Advik (8) were still breathing. People told Ajit that both the children were alive. You quickly give us the keys of the car. We will take him to the hospital. But Ajit flatly refused to give the keys. People definitely found this action of Ajit strange. But at that time the most important thing was to take the children to the hospital.

A neighbor reached there in his car and with the help of some people took the children to the hospital. At the same time, other people who went inside the house saw that Priyanka's body was lying in the verandah of the house. There is also a hammer stained with blood next to it. Inside the room, the body of 65 year old Savitri Devi was lying on the bed. There was blood on the entire bedsheet also. So there, Anurag's body was lying on the first floor of the house. A pistol was also lying a short distance away from the place where Anurag's dead body was.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police also reached the spot. The crowd was removed from there. The dead bodies were seized and sent to the hospital. People then told the police that Saheb Anurag's two children have been taken to the hospital. But after some time it came to light that Arvi and Advik had also died. He could not be saved. Now the police started asking Ajit about the incident.

Ajit narrated Aankhodekhi

Ajit told the police that he is Anurag's younger brother. He is an assistant teacher by profession. He teaches in a school here and lives on the first floor of Anurag's house. Police asked who killed these 6 people? On this Ajit told that sir, all this was done by brother only. He was mentally weak. He was addicted to drinking alcohol. The whole family was worried about this. They all wanted Anurag to stop drinking. That's why he repeatedly asked her to go to the doctor. This very thing was distasteful to Anurag. Priyanka Bhabhi used to work in an insurance company in Lucknow. He had taken a house on rent there. She lived there with her three children. Whereas, brother lived here in Palapur. Like always, this time too sister-in-law had come to meet brother. But on Friday night there was a fight between them again.

Then at night when everyone was sleeping, Anurag Bhaiya first killed his family. Then he came to my place also. By then I had heard everyone's screams. I had a suspicion that something had gone wrong. As soon as I saw that brother was coming towards me, I closed the room. After this he committed suicide by shooting himself. After some time, I opened the door and saw that Anurag bhaiya's dead body was lying in front. After this I informed the neighbors and the police about the incident.

Ajit's statements were recorded

Police recorded Ajit's statement. The forensic team picked up the hammer and pistol from the spot and took them along for investigation. The police investigation initially revealed that Anurag, in a drunken state, first killed his mother, wife and children. Then he committed suicide by shooting himself. On the other hand, Ajit also kept telling the same things to the police. But in the meanwhile something happened which changed the entire theory of this case.

Priyanka's brother told a different story

Priyanka's brother Ankit came there. As soon as he arrived, he registered a case against Ajit with the police. Said that my sister's family was killed by brother-in-law Anurag's brother. Ankit again told a new story to the police. Said, 'I got information about this murder at 6 am on Saturday. My two nephews and nieces were injured. They could have been saved. But Ajit deliberately did not send him to the hospital. My sister Priyanka had told me about him many times before that they were having some dispute with Ajit regarding property. That's why Ajit has killed him. Whatever allegations he is making against my brother-in-law are completely wrong.”

'Brother-in-law wanted to become an IAS'

Ankit said that my brother-in-law has lived in Allahabad for 6 years and in Delhi for two years. He wanted to become an IAS officer. He also took its coaching for 8 years. However, he could not pass the UPSC exam. If a person is mentally weak then how can he prepare for this examination. Secondly, my brother-in-law used to stay here alone and look after the farming of 100 bighas of land. Third, he loved his family so much that he had even got an insurance of Rs 2 crores done for the family. A few days ago they also celebrated their wedding anniversary. If a person loves his family so much, how can he kill them? Ankit accused Ajit that Ajit had killed them all over the property. But right now he is just doing drama to mislead the police.

And this is how the theory of the whole case changed

The police had just started investigating the case when the post mortem report came, which shocked everyone. The post mortem report made it clear that Savitri Devi had been attacked with an axe. Priyanka has been shot on the head. All three children were killed by being thrown from the roof. But the surprise was that two gun shot marks were found on Anurag's head. The police immediately noticed that even if a person shoots himself, that too on the head. Then he dies immediately. In such a situation, how can that person fire two bullets? The second thought that came to the police was that they had found a pistol lying far away from Anurag's body. If Anurag had committed suicide, the pistol would have been lying nearby. Not that far.

Why did Sitapur massacre become a high profile case?

Meanwhile, the matter gained momentum when it was revealed that Priyanka had a political background. She was the niece of Fateh Bahadur Singh, MLA from Campierganj assembly of Gorakhpur. Former Chief Minister Veer Bahadur Singh was his maternal grandfather. After this this matter became high profile. Monitoring of the case started from DGP headquarters. Then there was pressure from the government to solve the case as soon as possible. After the intervention of DGP Prashant Kumar, IG Range Tarun Gaba himself reached the spot to investigate. After that, when they started interrogating Ajit strictly, he broke down. He accepted that he had killed his brother Anurag, sister-in-law Priyanka, mother Savitri and all three innocent children. Ajit told that he along with two people had committed this murder. However, the names of those two people have not been revealed yet. Ajit told that his father had taken a loan. After the death of their father, both the brothers had to repay the loan amount.

Dispute regarding father's loan

Ajit said, 'I told brother that we repay the loan amount by selling our ancestral house. But he was not ready for this. Even I could not pay that much money from my job. Therefore, he was being repeatedly pressurized to sell his ancestral house. When he did not agree even after repeated requests, I along with two companions carried out this murder. At present, investigation is going on in this matter. Police say that many more revelations are yet to be made in the case.
