After demonetization in the country, the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) has revolutionized money transactions in many countries, especially India, making financial transactions easier and more accessible. Along with its convenience, UPI has also led to a rise in fraudulent activities. As digital connectivity expands, so do the methods adopted by scammers to exploit users. Today, through this article, we will tell you how many ways you can be cheated during UPI Payments-
Phishing Scams:
Scammers attempt to defraud users by sending fake UPI payment requests or impersonating banks or service providers. They may force users to reveal sensitive information like UPI PIN or other credentials.
Fake UPI Apps:
Fraudsters create fake UPI apps that are exactly like the original. By downloading these apps and entering personal details, users unknowingly give scammers access to their data.
Voice Call Cheat:
Fraudsters can impersonate bank officers or UPI employees over the phone and obtain sensitive information like UPI PIN or OTP.
QR Code Spoofing:
Scammers manipulate QR codes to redirect payments. Users should verify the authenticity of QR codes before scanning to ensure that they match the intended recipient.
Preventive Measures:
Download apps only from official sources like the App Store or Play Store.
Avoid clicking on suspicious links received via email, text, or social media.
Verify the UPI payment request and QR code before proceeding with the transaction.
Never share a UPI PIN, OTP, or password with anyone, whether over the phone or online.
