In 2010, India issued its first Aadhaar card, which has since become an essential document for Indian citizens. By 2024, about 90% of the Indian population will have an Aadhaar card. This card is important for taking advantage of government schemes and admission to schools and colleges.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is responsible for issuing Aadhaar cards. However, mistakes are often made while filling out the application form. Fortunately, UIDAI provides a facility for corrections, including updating the photo on the Aadhaar card. Here is a detailed process for updating your photo and the associated fees.
Updating photos at Aadhaar centers
If there is any incorrect information entered on your Aadhaar card, UIDAI allows you to update it. While some details can be updated online, others require a visit to the Aadhaar service center. To update your photo, you will have to visit the Aadhaar service center.
At the center, you will need to fill out and submit an update form with the required details. The operator will then take and update your new photo using biometric verification. You will get an update request slip, which you should keep safe. The fee for updating your photo on the Aadhaar card is Rs 50.
Downloading the updated Aadhaar card online
After requesting a photo update, it may take 30 to 90 days for the changes to show up. Once updated, you can download the new Aadhaar card online. Visit the official UIDAI website (www.uidai.gov.in) and click on 'Download Aadhaar'.
You will be redirected to a new page where you will need to enter your Aadhaar number, enrolment number, or Virtual ID. Click on 'Send OTP' and enter the OTP received on your registered number. After entering the captcha, click on 'Verify and Download'. Your new updated Aadhaar card will be downloaded.
This process ensures that your Aadhaar card has a correct and updated photograph, making it a reliable and up-to-date identity document.
