Bengaluru: Despite being sent to prison for brutally killing a fan, Kannada actor Darshan still retains a group of dedicated fans. While some protested outside the police station, others showed support by using his prison number, ‘6106’, as their car number. Amid this controversy, another incident has emerged where a specially-abled fan travelled 500 km to meet him in jail. Despite making multiple requests, the fan had to return without meeting the accused actor as Darshan decided to meet no one but his family.
Why Did the Fan Insist on Meeting Darshan?
Suryakant, a devoted fan of the Kannada actor, cycled from Yadgir district to Parappana Agrahara Jail to meet the 'Majestic' star. According to a report by News 18, Suryakant cycled 500 km to see his idol. He pleaded with police officials to allow him just one meeting with Darshan, promising to leave immediately afterwards. But he could not meet the actor.
The fan began his journey from home on Friday and arrived at the jail on June 25. He was deeply upset by Darshan's arrest. While explaining to officials why he wanted to meet the actor, he recalled Darshan's help during the release of 'Daasa' in 2003, mentioning that Darshan had assisted him with Rs 50,000 at that time.
Actor Arrested for Killing Fan
Kannada actor Darshan was arrested on June 11 in a case about the brutal killing of his fan Renuka Swamy, who was a 33-year-old assistant pharmacist from Chitradurga. According to the allegations levelled against him, Darshan had directed members of his fan club to kidnap Renuka Swamy and bring him to Bengaluru. The fan was told that Darshan wanted to meet him, but instead, he was held captive in a shed where the actor allegedly tortured him to death on June 8.
The police have arrested 17 individuals in connection with the incident. Darshan and three others have been sentenced to remain in judicial custody till July 4. According to police reports, Renuka Swamy had sent some inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, Darshan's alleged girlfriend and accomplice, and had also shared explicit photos.
