Azamgarh: An alleged violent attack on a family in Katghar Jalal village, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday night has left one woman dead and six others severely injured. The attack stemmed from an ongoing land dispute, said cops on Sunday. The victim's son Virendra Kumar Gautam lodged a police complaint after which an FIR was registered against 13 people, including four women.
Gautam alleged that a group of people armed with sticks and iron rods attacked his house, The victims included Gautam, his mother Kewalpati Devi (60), his brother Parasnath, his niece Vishakha, ShashiDewal, and two others. All were grievously injured in the assault.
Based on his complaint, a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), section 506 (criminal intimidation), and section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The FIR names 13 individuals from the village as suspects.
In an immediate response to the alleged incident, cops rushed to the scene, and all the injured were taken to a hospital, however, Kewalpati Devi succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, said AdditionalSuperintendent of Police(ASP) Chirag Jain.
Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, he added.
Jain stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused individuals involved in the attack.
