WhatsApp is undoubtedly the most preferred messaging application for millions of users across India. However, not only individuals use the application for communication. The app is also the most preferred application in terms of chatting with businesses.
Be it clothing brands, food businesses, or automobile companies, businesses interact with their consumers through the instant messaging app to answer queries and resolve issues. To make these businesses stand out and ensure their authenticity, the tech giant launched a green checkmark next to the name of verified channels so that users can identify them.
However, in a recent report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to replace it with a different checkmark with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.18 update. Reportedly, a screenshot shared revealed that the Meta-owned app is working to replace the green verification badge for verified channels and businesses with a blue checkmark.
Furthermore, the report also suggested that the tech giant wants to make the verification badge uniform across all Meta platforms, similar to the blue checkmark on Facebook and Instagram. At the moment, WhatsApp is publicly testing this change and some beta users may be able to spot the new update.
It is worth noting that the introduction of the new blue checkmark will still serve as a mark for authenticity, which will guarantee users that they are interacting with verified channels or businesses. The development of the blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses is aimed at increasing user trust and reducing the risk of impersonation.
As of now, this new feature has been made available to some beta users who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. However, it will soon be rolled out to other users in the coming weeks, the media outlet reported.
