An advisory has also been issued regarding WhatsApp calls. These numbers: like +92-xxxxxxxxxxxx - call people to the rooms of government officials and deceive them. The Ministry of Telecommunications has warned mobile users that cyber criminals try to threaten/steal personal information through such calls to commit cybercrime/financial fraud. It further states that DoT does not authorize anyone on its behalf to make such calls and advises people to be cautious. Also, asked not to share any information on receiving such calls.

How and where to report such frauds?
DoT has advised citizens to report such fraudulent communications on the 'I-Report Suspected Fraud Communications' feature of Sanchar Sathi portal (www.sancharsthi.gov.in). Such proactive reporting helps DoT to prevent misuse of telecom resources for cyber crime, financial frauds, etc.

Besides, citizens can also check mobile connections in their name on the 'Know Your Mobile Connections' feature of the Sancharsathi portal (www.sancharsthi.gov.in) and report any mobile connection that they have not availed or do not require. The telecom department has also advised citizens to report cyber crime helpline number 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in if they become victims of cyber crime or financial fraud.
