WhatsApp Context Card Feature: This feature will help avoid WhatsApp group scams reported in the media. WhatsApp said, 'This is especially helpful if you have met a person or a group of people, and have not yet saved them to your contacts.

WhatsApp recently launched the context card feature for groups. The purpose of this feature is to give users important information before joining a group. This feature will help avoid WhatsApp group scams reported in the media. WhatsApp said, 'This is especially helpful if you have met a person or group of people, and have not yet saved them to your contacts - or it can help confirm if this is a group you know or want to join.'

What is WhatsApp group scam?

WhatsApp users have reportedly been victimised by a scam in which fraudsters fool people into joining a group chat that could result in financial loss to their friends and family. To trick users into believing the scammers use fake audio calls, fake profile pictures and display names.

They pretend to give information about the stock market to the victims, which leads them to believe their words. The victim is then added to a group of fraudsters who convince the victim about the benefits of the offer made. Encouraged by these conversations, the victim, like many others, feels convinced. The large number of participants creates an illusion of credibility.

When fraudsters take someone in their trap, they show a special kind of "share trading account" and software. Actually this software shows fake profits which makes people feel that their money is increasing a lot. When people believe this lie, fraudsters ask them for money. After getting the money, these people run away with the money and people suffer losses.

How will the new feature stop scams?

When you are added to a WhatsApp group, you see a "context card". This card contains important information such as who added you to the group, who created the group, when the group was created, and the purpose of the group. This information will help you decide if the group is important to you and whether you should join it.
