WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that will allow users to set specific contacts as favorites, the company announced on Tuesday. It allows users to save their most frequent contacts to the top of their WhatsApp chats and calls. Additionally, it will be available as a filter for instant messaging platforms. The development comes weeks after WhatsApp introduced text cards that promise improved security when adding users to unknown group chats.

WhatsApp favorites

WhatsApp announced the launch of this feature in a blog post. Users can organize their chats by adding frequent chats to the favorite filter. Once updated, this filter will be added alongside the Everyone, Unread, and Group filters on instant messaging platforms.

Additionally, users can now also set favorites in the Contacts tab. To add a contact to favorites:

Open WhatsApp and select your favorite filter in the Chats tab.

Then select the contacts or groups you want to save as favorites. Tap a filter to view only selected contacts.

To favorite a contact in the WhatsApp Contacts tab, simply select the “Add to Favorites” option and select the contact.

To manage contacts in Favorites, go to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorites. This setting allows you to manage or sort contacts saved as favorites.

According to WhatsApp, the new feature is available today and will be available to users in the coming weeks. However, Gadget 360 staff could not confirm availability for WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp for iOS. This feature may be rolled out gradually as devices gradually gain this feature.

Features under development

In addition to Favorites, WhatsApp is said to be testing several new features, including live translation for chats, voice message transcription, and a dedicated video note mode for the camera user interface (UI). The features listed are still under development and may only be available to beta testers who enroll through the Google Play Beta program.
