Hackers even reached the long arm of the law, looted 93 lakhs from a lawyer via WhatsApp

Investment Scam: The threat of scams on WhatsApp is increasing. Now even lawyers are not safe. A case has come to light in Delhi in which Rs 93 lakh was stolen from a lawyer through WhatsApp scam. A lawyer living in Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram got trapped in the share market investment market. This came to light when the person received a call from an international number. An investment offer was given in it. 

The person thought the offer was true. He trusted the caller and invested a large amount. The scammer lured the lawyer by promising huge profits in the stock market and then added him to a WhatsApp group named Club 88. He also asked him to download an app named Block Tigers. The lawyer transferred Rs 93 lakh to several bank accounts by June 27. When the promised returns were not received and the scammers could not be contacted, the lawyer lodged a complaint with the cyber police.

Ways to avoid online investment schemes: 

  • If you are being offered an investment scheme which has come from a place where you don't know anyone, then do not trust it. 

  • Always work with experienced and reputed brokerage firms.

  • Before investing, get complete information about it. 

  • If someone is promising you such returns which cannot be trusted, then you should be careful. 

  • Do not transfer money to any account without thinking. 

  • If someone is talking to you about investment on call or message then ignore him. 

  • You need to understand the rules and regulations before investing. 

  • If you have any doubts at any point then do not invest.
