WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a highly anticipated feature that will enhance user interaction: double-tap reactions. This new addition will allow users to quickly react to messages with a simple double-tap, similar to Instagram’s direct message feature. Here’s what you need to know about this upcoming feature and other exciting updates from WhatsApp.

New Double-Tap Reaction Feature

What’s New: According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new double-tap reaction feature that will let users respond to messages swiftly. Instead of the current method, where users must press and hold a message to choose a reaction, the double-tap option will streamline this process.

How It Works: With the new feature, a quick double-tap will let users react to messages—such as photos, videos, and GIFs—with a default heart emoticon. This will speed up interactions and make the messaging experience more fluid and convenient.

Availability: The double-tap reaction feature is still in the testing phase. WhatsApp has not yet confirmed when it will be available to all users, but it is expected to be included in an upcoming update.

Instagram-Like Features in Development

Status Resharing: In addition to the double-tap reactions, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to reshare status updates in which they’ve been mentioned. This functionality is similar to Instagram’s story mentions and will enable users to repost such mentions on their own statuses, enhancing sharing and interaction among contacts.

File Sharing Across Platforms: Another noteworthy update is the new file-sharing feature that WhatsApp is developing. This feature will allow users to transfer files between Android and iOS devices wirelessly, without needing an internet connection. Discovered in the iOS beta version, this feature uses a tool called Nearby Share. It supports transferring media content, documents, and other files via Wi-Fi Direct, making cross-platform file sharing easier and more efficient.
