In most cases of crime, murder is considered to be the most horrific crime committed by a human being. Every murder is directly related to money, wife or land. In most cases of murder, illicit relations are the main reason. Murders due to illicit relations are more cruel, disgusting and cross all limits than murders committed in other cases. One such case was seen in Warangal of Telangana in South India.
On 21 May 2020, Gaurekunta village on the outskirts of Warangal city, the second largest city of Telangana, suddenly became the center of discussions in the entire state, the main reason for which was the bodies of 7 members of the same family being found in a well. There was silence all around after seeing the bodies coming out of the well of Gaurekunta village one after the other. On seeing the bodies in the well, the police reached the spot and as the bodies were taken out of the well.
The police force on the spot was increasing after finding 9 bodies together. The biggest challenge before the police after seeing the 9 bodies was to solve the whole case. Initially, the police was assuming that all the people had been murdered in a group. But so many people committing suicide together was raising the biggest question before the police that why would so many people commit suicide by jumping into the well together.
The police was now waiting for the postmortem reports of all the deceased. The police could not just sit idle waiting for the postmortem reports to arrive. The matter had become very big and serious. There was pressure on the police to solve the case quickly. The police continued to question the neighbors and acquaintances of the deceased family.
The police started keeping an eye on the acquaintances of the deceased's family. During this time, the police found the behaviour of Sanjay Singh Yadav, a young man known to the deceased's family, suspicious. But the police did not want to arrest and interrogate anyone on the basis of mere suspicion without the post-mortem report.
Soon the police got the post mortem reports of all the deceased. The police were shocked after seeing the post mortem reports because all the post mortem reports were completely different from the police's theory of mass suicide. The post mortem report revealed that all the 9 people had died not by jumping into the well but by consuming poison. This post mortem report contributed greatly to the police in changing the direction of their investigation.
Now Warangal police was convinced that all the 9 people could not have committed suicide by drinking or eating poison together. Out of the 9 bodies found in the well, 6 belonged to the same family while three belonged to acquaintances of the family who had attended their child's birthday party at the house of the deceased family that day.
This is how the police revealed the murder
In the case of murder of 9 people in Warangal, the police held a press conference and revealed the whole matter. Giving information about the arrest of the main accused of the murder, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, the police said that Sanjay Kumar had killed all the people by poisoning them and after their death, he had stuffed the bodies in a sack and thrown them in the well.
Police told about the criminal Sanjay Kumar Yadav that he is a 26-year-old boy from Bihar, who came to Warangal to work as a labourer. The then Police Commissioner V. Ravinder had told that criminal Sanjay Kumar Yadav had committed all the murders just to hide the secret of one murder.
This is how Sanjay Yadav committed his first murder
A labour colony in Gaurekunta village of Warangal, Telangana. A Bengali labourer from Maqsood family lived in this colony. He used to work in a bag making factory in Warangal. A 26-year-old youth from Bihar, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, also worked in the same factory. The criminal Sanjay Kumar Yadav lived near Maqsood's family's house in the labour colony of Warangal. During this time, he became friends with Maqsood's family.
Sanjay Singh Yadav's eyes met Maqsood's wife Nisha's 37-year-old niece Rafiqa and they fell in love. Both of them started living together near Maqsood's house. Rafiqa had divorced her husband. After which she came to her aunt living in Warangal with her three children. During this time, she started getting close to Sanjay Yadav and soon they developed an illicit relationship. Rafiqa also used to work with Sanjay Yadav in a bag making factory.
Due to the illegal relationship between the two, Sanjay Yadav's evil eye fell on Rafiqa's daughter as well. Rafiqa had started opposing this.
Sanjay Yadav murdered Rafiqa in the train
Sanjay Yadav was not stopping his misdeeds. One day he tried to force himself on Rafiqa's minor daughter, which her daughter informed her mother Rafiqa. Rafiqa scolded Sanjay Yadav very badly. After this scolding from Rafiqa, Sanjay Yadav planned to kill Rafiqa. One day Sanjay Yadav told Maqsood that he wanted to marry Rafiqa, so he wanted to meet Rafiqa's family.
After getting consent from Maqsood and Nisha, Sanjay Yadav left for West Bengal from Warangal on 6 March 2020 by Garib Rath train with Rafiqa. During the journey in the train, he bought buttermilk on the way to feed himself and Rafiqa. He mixed sleeping pills in the buttermilk and gave it to Rafiqa and drank the clean buttermilk first. So that Rafiqa does not get suspicious. After drinking the buttermilk, Rafiqa became unconscious. After which Sanjay strangled Rafiqa to death in the unconscious state. After her death, Sanjay threw her body from the moving train in Godavari area.
Sanjay Yadav returned to Warangal
After killing Rafiqa in the train, Sanjay Singh Yadav got down at Rajahmundry railway station and from there took a train back to Warangal. When Sanjay Yadav returned alone, Maqsood and his wife Nisha inquired about Rafiqa, then Sanjay Yadav started misleading them by saying that he had gone to her village. But Maqsood was not believing his words, so he threatened to complain against him to the police.
After this threat, Sanjay Yadav started planning to kill Maqsood and his wife Nisha. On 20 May 2020, it was Maqsood and Nisha's son Shabaz's birthday. Maqsood and Nisha had invited their special people for dinner. Sanjay Yadav was also present at Maqsood's house on the occasion of Maqsood's son's birthday. As per his plan, Sanjay Yadav saw an opportunity and mixed sleeping pills in the food prepared at home. Sanjay Yadav was seen at Maqsood's son's birthday by two youths from Bihar living in the neighborhood.
So he mixed sleeping pills in the food of those two youths. After eating, everyone fell asleep and Sanjay Yadav started strangling everyone one by one. He first strangled Maqsood, his wife Nisha and children to death. Then he strangled Maqsood's guest Shakeel who had come from Tripura to death. After this, he strangled those two youths from Bihar to death.
After the murder, all the bodies were disposed of
After killing all the people, he started throwing the bodies of all the people one by one in a well built nearby after 12 o'clock in the night of 21 May 2020. After throwing all the bodies in the well, he came to his house and slept. On 21 May 2020, along with the whole country, Warangal was also under Corona lockdown. On the news of the dead body in the well, a police team reached the spot and took out the bodies of Maqsood, his wife Nisha, daughter Basra, his innocent son from the well.
The police started looking for the other missing family members and the search was started again in the well on 22 May 2020. Once again, bodies started emerging from the well. This time the body of Maqsood's 22-year-old son Shabaz was found, then the body of Maqsood's other son 20-year-old Sohail was found, then the bodies of two youths Shyam and Shriram from Bihar were found, and finally the body of Maqsood's relative Shakeel, a resident of Tripura, was found.
When all the bodies were taken out of the well, the local people were thinking that maybe everyone had committed suicide in the well due to corona. But the police got the footage of the nearby CCTV cameras under investigation. The police started monitoring Sanjay Yadav on the basis of the footage. As soon as the post mortem report was received, the police started interrogating Sanjay Yadav in their own style in which he could not mislead the police for long and confessed his crime of killing all the people.
Warangal District Court awarded death sentence
