A young woman has been murdered in a brutal stabbing by a railway station with police launching a murder investigation.
The Suffolk town of Ipswich is reeling tonight after the violent incident near the railway station on Burrell Road. Police officers were confronted with the harrowing sight of a female, believed to be in her 20s, who had sustained grave stab injuries. Paramedics fought to save her but despite their efforts, she could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.
The heinous crime unfolded earlier today, with emergency responders descending upon the site around 7.10pm. As of 11pm, the perpetrator remains at large with no arrests reported.
Authorities are urging any witnesses to step forward to aid the ongoing investigation, while Burrell Road is cordoned off amidst the nocturnal police activity.
Detective Chief Inspector Tam Burgess of Suffolk Police said: "Emergency services, including a number of police resources, were deployed to the scene and those in the area will continue to see an increased police presence throughout tonight and the coming days.
"A murder investigation has been launched and we are in the early stages of our enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, however it is believed the parties are known to each other. We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information, no matter how small you may feel it is."
Suffolk Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to step forward. They're particularly keen on hearing from drivers with dashcam footage, or residents with CCTV or doorbell cameras in the vicinity, who are requested to review any footage between 6.30pm and 7.30pm for anything that may be pertinent.
