The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a stern warning to the public about the growing activities of fraud. Now the fraudsters are impersonating CBI officers to extort money. These criminals are using the logo of the agency and the name of senior officials to create trust and deceive the victims. The CBI has issued a warning regarding this.

The CBI has shared a post on X about the increasing cases of online fraud and has also asked users to be cautious. CBI has written, 'Please be alert about the scam misusing the name and position of senior CBI officers. Fake documents signed by CBI officers including the CBI Director as well as fake warrants/summons are being circulated by the fraudsters to commit fraud. These are being circulated by the fraudsters on the Internet/email / WhatsApp etc. '

In another post, the central investigating agency informed the people that the fraudsters are also using the publicly available CBI logo as their display picture to make calls through WhatsApp to extort money from people. The CBI posted on Twitter, 'Some criminals are misusing the publicly available CBI logo as their display picture to extort money from people, especially through WhatsApp. People are advised to be cautious and not fall prey to such scams. Any such attempt should be reported to the local police immediately.'

The CBI has informed that incidents are increasing in which people have received fake calls, emails, or messages claiming to be from the agency. These fraudsters often threaten victims with legal action or arrest if their demand for money is not met.

The agency has urged people to be vigilant and exercise caution while dealing with any communication claiming to be from the CBI. The agency has said that real CBI officials will never ask for personal or financial information through phone or email.

Stay safe like this:

Verify the caller: Always verify the identity of the caller independently. Especially if they claim to be from the CBI.

Do not share personal details: Do not disclose personal or financial details over the phone or through any digital platform unless you are sure about the authenticity of the receiver.

Beware of fake links and attachments: Do not click on links from unknown senders or open attachments as they may contain malicious software.

Report suspicious activity: Immediately report any suspicious activity to the local police or cyber crime cell.
