UPI Fraud: Nowadays some thugs are using fake UPI apps like fake GPay, fake PhonePe, fake Paytm, etc. on the Play Store. Small traders are suffering huge losses due to these fake apps, especially small shopkeepers, street vendors, and daily wage laborers who do not have a sound box. These fake apps look like real UPI apps, and when the thugs use them, these apps show that the payment has been successful.

Thugs scan QR codes with these apps present on the Google Play Store, then show fake screenshots of payment. Sound notifications are heard in these apps. This makes the shopkeeper feel that the payment has been made, his sound box did not work for that transaction but in reality, no money comes into his account. Thugs are fooling people in this way, and many traders are falling prey to it. Everyone needs to be alert to avoid this new method of cheating.

On platforms like Telegram, download links of these fake apps are being sold for just Rs 100, and some apps are also available on the Play Store. This is a big threat for small traders, as they depend on UPI for everyday transactions and are not able to check every payment in depth. Therefore, traders and people need to be vigilant. They should always check the credit in their UPI app, and not just rely on the screenshots and notifications shown by the customer.
