WhatsApp has mainly become a threat of spam and stalkers as anyone can message you or even call you just by knowing your phone number. But messaging may soon give you the power to decide which messages you want to read and which to block. WhatsApp is testing a feature that will allow users to block messages from unknown or unknown numbers.

WhatsApp blocks unknown numbers - why it can be big for your security

The WhatsApp feature has been tested this week by the reliable WABetaInfo. A feature called Block Unknown Account Messages is being tested on Android beta version 2.24.17.24 which is still in the development stage so we could be a few months away from a possible public release. The new block feature will be available in privacy where you have an advanced section to enable the tool using a toggle button.

WhatsApp claims that enabling this feature can somehow improve the performance of the device, which we are not sure about, but you can definitely get better privacy from strangers, especially women who need this tool on the platform. Another interesting thing mentioned in the beta version is that the block account feature will work if it exceeds a certain volume. For a secure messaging app like WhatsApp, its openness for messages/calls is simple but at the same time very simple. In comparison, Signal is more aware of privacy concerns, and doesn't give people all access if they get messages from unknown numbers. We hope that the privacy feature on WhatsApp will be rolled out to the public beta version soon.

One feature that is now available to all WhatsApp users is the ability to create custom stickers using Meta AI. They also now have a wide range of stickers and GIF images available through GIPHY in the messaging app.
