Bollywood Box Office – August 2024 emerged as a noteworthy month for the box office, primarily due to the outstanding performance of “Stree 2”. Among the five major releases in August, “Stree 2” was the only film to achieve blockbuster status, significantly influencing the month’s total earnings.

The film’s dominance was stark, especially in contrast to the underwhelming performance of the other four releases. “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” and “Ulajh” (released on August 2), and “Vedaa,” “Khel Khel Mein,” and “Stree 2” (released on August 15). While the remaining films were box office failures, “Stree 2” stood out, continuing the trend of success for the franchise.

“Stree 2” significantly contributed to August 2024’s box office performance, accounting for an impressive 87% of the month’s total earnings. The film alone amassed ₹453.60 crores out of the total ₹517.84 crores for the month. In stark contrast, the combined earnings of the other four releases were a mere ₹64.24 crores. Despite this impressive showing, August 2024 fell short of the record-setting success seen in August 2023, largely due to the lackluster performances of “Khel Khel Mein” and “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.”

Comparing August 2024 to August 2023

August 2023 was a standout month for the box office, marked by the release of “OMG 2,” “Gadar 2,” and “Dream Girl 2,” which together earned a staggering ₹780.50 crores. “Gadar 2” alone contributed ₹525.50 crores, setting a high benchmark for August releases. While August 2024 recorded the second-best performance of the last decade, it could not surpass the phenomenal success of August 2023. Despite “Stree 2″’s continued strong performance, it fell short of challenging the record set by “Gadar 2.”

August’s Notable Disasters

August has seen its share of box office flops over the past decade. “Qaidi Band,” produced by Aditya Chopra, was a notable disaster, earning only ₹0.50 crores since its release on August 25, 2017. “Dobaaraa,” starring Taapsee Pannu, fared poorly as well, grossing just ₹3.85 crores after its August 19, 2022 release. Despite Sunny Deol’s success with “Gadar 2” in 2023, he was also part of one of the biggest August flops in 2018 with “Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se,” which earned just ₹10 crores. August 2024, while successful due to “Stree 2,” still reflects the mixed nature of the month’s historical box office performance.
