WhatsApp keeps adding functionality, thus, older Android, iOS, and macOS systems can’t support them. Meta said this week that the old WhatsApp macOS app would cease running and that they should install the new one immediately.
The source told WaBetaInfo last week that the previous macOS WhatsApp application would be discontinued in 54 days. Meta notes that macOS users may download the updated WhatsApp version via the official website or the Mac App Store before the deadline.
Why is the previous macOS WhatsApp version disappearing? This WhatsApp was made using Electron, a Mac web app with speed issues. With the messaging app’s many capabilities, the previous app may be irrelevant in 2024.
The new WhatsApp macOS version, created using Catalyst technology, leverages the iOS app as its backbone and runs natively on Macs, making it quicker and more responsive to new features.
The new WhatsApp macOS app is available for macOS 11 and above. WhatsApp users may only use the online version on any web browser since there is no dedicated iPad app.
