Constable Sandeep, a 2018 batch Delhi Police officer, was struck and killed by a WagonR while on patrol in Nangloi on Saturday night. The police official had asked the driver of a WagonR to drive safely after he spotted the latter driving recklessly.
The incident occurred when the officer was monitoring the area due to a rise in burglaries, dressed in civilian clothes. According to CNN-News18, which accessed the CCTV footage, the driver then hit the constable with his car and dragged him for approximately 10 metres before hitting another vehicle.
“Sandeep took a left turn in a gali and indicated to the Wagon R to slow down. On this, wagon R suddenly accelerated and hit the Bike dragged the deceased with the bike for about 10 metres and hit another parked car. CT Sandeep got head injuries leading to death,” another police officer said.
“Prima Facie it looks like road rage but once the accused is apprehended we will know further,” Jimmy Chiram, DCP of outer Delhi Police, said.
Sandeep was rushed to two nearby hospitals but was declared dead.
The Delhi Police have registered a case under 103 BNS and are searching for two suspects involved in the incident. The police official has left behind his mother, wife and a 5-year-old son. The police force paid obeisance to the deceased officer in a social media post on Sunday.
