On Sunday evening, a procession for immersion of Durga idol was taking place from Maharajganj area of ​​Mansoor village under Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich. At the same time, when the procession passed in front of the house of a person named Salman, a dispute started over the loudspeaker. Two parties came face to face in the dispute, after which it is alleged that bullets were fired from Salman's house. In this firing, one person from the procession, Ram Gopal Mishra, was shot. His condition worsened after which he was taken to the hospital but his life could not be saved.

After the death of Ram Gopal, Hindu organizations got agitated and came out to protest at many places against the violence. It is alleged that 5-6 people have been injured in the firing. The police took action and registered a case against the accused Salman. More than 30 people have been detained so far. To maintain law and order, police have taken out flag march in sensitive areas. Police have used force at some places.
