Free Cylinder for Diwali: The central government has brought in the 'Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana' (PMUY) scheme to make clean cooking fuel like LPG available to rural and poor families. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Modi on 1 May 2016 in UP.

Free Cylinder for Diwali: The Government of India is implementing some welfare schemes for crores of people of the country according to their various needs. Crores of people in the country are benefiting from the government schemes. 'Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana' is one such. The Government of India has brought this scheme with the aim of making cooking gas accessible to all the people of the country. This scheme was brought to remove wood stoves from the homes of the poor people of the country and provide clean fuel like LPG.

Wood stoves made of clay are still used for cooking in some parts of the country. This affects the health of family members and women who do most of the cooking at home, as well as the reduction of cooking sugarcane in rural areas and the impact on forests. To address these, the government has introduced the 'Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana' (PMUY) scheme aimed at making clean cooking fuel like LPG available to rural and poor families. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 May 2016 at Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.

A free gas cylinder-a Diwali gift for women
This scheme brought by the central government is being implemented by all the states of the country. Subsidized cooking gas cylinders are provided to people. However, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give one gas cylinder for free this Diwali. Their government has called it a big Diwali gift for women. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced that free LPG cylinders will be provided to stakeholders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. With this decision taken by CM Yogi, 2 crore families of the state will benefit and the joy of the festival will be doubled, the government said in a statement.

What did CM Yogi say in the post?
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared the post on X and gave the Diwali free cylinder information. On the occasion of Diwali, CM Yogi wrote in his post that it has been decided to distribute free LPG cylinders to all the beneficiaries of Prime Minister Ujjwala Scheme. The Chief Minister said that all the formalities related to this decision should be completed on time by the concerned authorities. In each case, instructions were sent to the authorities that LPG cylinders should be available in the houses of all the beneficiaries before Diwali.

When was the Ujjwala scheme started? Who benefits?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched in the year 2016. Under this scheme, women belonging to poor families are provided with free gas connections including gas cylinders and stoves. Apart from that, if the gas cylinder is refilled, the government will also give a subsidy. According to government data, 1.75 crore households in Uttar Pradesh have taken free gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme. All these families will be given the benefit of free gas cylinders before Diwali by the Uttar Pradesh government. Women residing in Uttar Pradesh who have not yet applied for benefits under the Ujjwala scheme can join and get a free gas cylinder. It said that the benefit applies only to women under the Ujjwala scheme.

How to apply for Ujjwala scheme benefits?
If you also want to take advantage of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, first you need to go to the official website www.pmuy.gov.in. In this, you will see the application forms. These should be downloaded in your desired language. You can also collect this form from the ELPG Centre. After this, take a printout of the form and fill in all the information. You have to submit the form along with the required documents at the nearest LPG centre. After document verification, you will get a free gas connection. Any eligible person in the country can apply for it.
