A couple was detained in connection with a case of alleged torture and murder of a minor house help in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, the police said on Saturday.
The 15-year-old girl hailed from Thanjavur and was found dead in the toilet of the house in the Aminjikarai area of the city, according to reports.
The accused couple has been identified as Mohammad Nishad and Nasiya who allegedly fled from the spot to some other place after the alleged crime.
According to the police, there were wounds reportedly caused due to branding with an iron box. The girl’s body was subjected to inhuman treatment including burns from hot iron and cigarette butts.
She later succumbed to her injuries, according to the police.
The Aminjikarai police have registered a case and are investigating. The victim’s mother is a widow.
