The police have finally apprehended the accused, ten days after the case of the rape and murder of a college girl in Motiwada village of Gujarat’s Valsad district came to light.
The accused was apprehended from Vapi railway station and taken into custody for interrogation. After raping the girl, who was returning home from tuition, the accused killed her and absconded, the police said.
The police investigation has unearthed several shocking revelations, including the accused’s involvement in three additional murders on trains, bringing the total to five murders in the past 25 days.

The case came to light when the body of a girl was found in suspicious circumstances near the railway track in Motiwada village. The gravity of the situation prompted the deployment of high-ranking police officials, including the Valsad District Police Chief, to the crime scene.
The preliminary post-mortem report from Surat revealed that the girl had been raped and strangled to death, prompting a full-fledged investigation by multiple police teams to track down the perpetrator.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, Rahul Singh Jat, a native of Haryana, has a history of drug abuse and criminal activity. On the day of the incident, the accused followed the victim from the railway station as she made her way home from tuition. He then led her to a secluded spot, where he raped and strangled her, police said.
During their investigation, the police recovered a bag containing clothes from the crime scene. Suspecting that the clothes belonged to the accused, they meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from Vapi railway station and other locations, ultimately leading them to identify and apprehend the suspect.
The Valsad district police, in pursuit of this serial killer, dispatched teams to various states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. They meticulously analysed over 2,000 hours of CCTV footage to trace the accused’s movements. The investigation involved a massive force of over 400 personnel, including police officers, home guards, and railway police.
