Surging LPG Prices in Pakistan: Here's the Latest Impact on Households

Rising Costs Amid Inflation

Pakistan has announced a significant increase in LPG cylinder prices, dealing a blow to common citizens already grappling with inflation. The price of an 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder has risen by nearly PKR 80, pushing the new price to PKR 3,079. This comes as part of a broader wave of price hikes affecting essential commodities in the country.

Gasoline and Diesel Prices Climb Too

In addition to the LPG price hike, the Pakistan government has also raised petrol and diesel prices. Petrol now costs PKR 252.10 per liter, up from PKR 248, while high-speed diesel is priced at PKR 258.43 per liter. These adjustments, driven by global oil market trends, are expected to further strain household budgets.

Official Justifications

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) cited international market fluctuations as the primary reason for the LPG price increase. The hike of PKR 1.32 per kg for LPG translates to an additional burden for households relying on domestic cylinders for cooking and heating needs.

What Lies Ahead?

With these changes coming right before the new year, Pakistani citizens are facing growing financial challenges. The continued rise in the cost of living is sparking concerns about its impact on the middle and lower-income groups, who are already struggling to make ends meet.
