A man allegedly set his wife on fire using petrol in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district after she gave birth to their third daughter, the police said on Saturday.
The man was identified as Kundlik Uttam Kale, 32, who set ablaze his wife Maina in Gangakhed Naka on Thursday night, they added.
Complaint Filed Against Accused
Maina’s sister filed a police complaint and alleged that the accused used to taunt his wife over giving birth to three daughters. He would pick frequent fights with her on the matter, the officials said.
The police said that one such argument broke out on Thursday night when he poured petrol on her and set her on fire.
“She ran out of the house screaming where people tried to douse the fire. However, by then she was severely burnt and died while being rushed to a hospital," the police said.
Kale was arrested soon after for murder, the Gangakhed police station official said.
