
Under PMUY, 10.33 crore LPG connections have been issued to poor families so far and they get a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder.
New Delhi: The number of domestic LPG connections has more than doubled in the last 10 years. According to the data of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the number of LPG gas connections in the country has increased from 14.52 crores in 2014 to 32.83 crores by November 1, 2024.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), 10.33 crore LPG connections have been issued to poor families. All Ujjwala beneficiaries are being given a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder. About 13 lakh cylinders with LPG connections issued under PMUY are being refilled every day.
The statement said, "The efforts of the government have increased the consumption of LPG by Ujjwala families. Per capita consumption of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders has increased from 3.01 in 2019-20 to 3.95 in 2023-24. Per capita consumption in the current year has reached 4.34 (till October 2024).
As of November 2024, around 30.43 crore LPG consumers are enrolled under the government's PAHAL scheme, which transfers LPG subsidy directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries whose income is less than Rs 10 lakh per annum.
More than 1.14 crore customers have given up LPG subsidy
The statement said that so far more than 1.14 crore customers have given up their LPG subsidy under the 'Give It Up' campaign. The number of LPG distributors has increased from 13,896 since 2014 to 25,532 by November 1, 2024, increasing the availability of cooking gas for consumers. The statement said that more than 90 percent of the new distributors are providing service in rural areas.
The year-end review report also pointed out that the length of natural gas pipelines in the country has also increased from 15,340 km in 2014 to 24,945 km in 2024, making the environmentally friendly fuel available to more consumers. About 10,805 km of natural gas pipelines are being developed. With the completion of these pipelines, the National Gas Grid will be completed. This will ensure easy availability of natural gas in all areas.
