Several vehicles collided on the Delhi-Lucknow highway near the Bahadurgarh station area early Friday morning due to dense fog conditions in Delhi-NCR that reduced visibility to almost zero.
Hapur police officials reported that the dense fog created hazardous driving conditions, leading to multiple accidents on the highway.
The visuals from the incident site showed half a dozen cars stuck together, their bonnets severely damaged. Due to low visibility owing to foggy weather, one car hit another from the back amid low visibility.
Delhiites woke up to a bone-chilling morning on Friday, with dense fog enveloping the national capital, reducing visibility to zero in several areas.
The minimum temperature sharply declined to 7 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am, bringing another round of cold wave conditions in the national capital on Friday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As a result, over 150 flights and about 26 trains were delayed. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued an advisory for the passengers stating that there has been an impact on flight operations. It further advised the passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.
The air quality in Delhi plunged into the ‘severe’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board reporting an AQI of 409 at 7 a.m. today. This marks a sharp decline compared to yesterday’s AQI of 299 recorded at the same time.
