Agra: A man in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar took a Rs 40,000 bank loan to hire two killers to kill his sister-in-law. The 21-year-old woman was gang-raped, murdered and set on fire to destroy evidence, police said. The woman's skull was recovered from a nearby forest on Friday.
The body was reportedly charred beyond recognition. Her parents identified her from partially burnt clothes footwear and undergarments -- all recovered from the crime scene. The remains were later sent for postmortem.
An FIR was registered under BNS sections of murder and gang rape. The brother-in-law, a resident of Meerut, was arrested on Saturday. The two killers are absconding.
"The woman was last seen on Jan 21, reportedly on a scooter with her brother-in-law. Her family filed a police complaint at Budhana. The main accused was in an illicit relationship with her for two years. He told the cops that the woman was blackmailing him with some private photos and videos of them together. Afraid of getting exposed, he plotted with his two associates. He took a Rs 40,000 loan from a bank -- paid the men Rs 10,000 in advance and promised Rs 20,000 after the crime," said Muzaffarnagar SP (rural) Aditya Bansal, according to TOI.
"They first gang-raped her, then strangled her with her scarf and later burned the body with petrol to destroy the evidence. The fact that her undergarments were found intact while the other clothes were burned raised suspicion of sexual assault. Two condom packets were also found," the police officer added.
