The All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA), which strongly objects to the Union Budget’s announcement that foreign direct investment in the insurance sector would increase by 100% from the current 74%, called on insurance workers nationwide to protest the plan during lunch.

Participating in the lunchtime protests were union leaders Ch. Kaladhar, NMK Prasad, EV Tulasi Rao, N. Srinivas, Ch. Rajasekhar, K. Krishna Prasad, PK Sai Prasad, Gurram Srinivas, MP Govardhan, and other staff members.
The increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) limitations in the insurance industry is unjustified and has major ramifications for the mobilization of valuable resources for the advancement of the Indian economy and fulfilling the State’s duty to its inhabitants.
According to the AIIEA, granting complete autonomy and more access to foreign funding will only impede the insurance sector’s steady expansion.
The AIIEA expressed its severe disapproval of the decision and called for its retraction. Additionally, it cautions the government against the plan to retroactively change the Insurance Act of 1938, the LIC Act of 1956, and the IRDA Act of 1999.
It calls for economic policies to shift away from corporate bias and toward people-centric indicators. The interests of the people must come before corporate profits, according to the government.
