A 35-year-old cook named Manoj, also known as Babu was brutally assaulted and killed inside an RTV bus after accidentally spilling food on a seat in Delhi's Bawana area. On the night of February 1, 2025, Manoj and his colleague Dinesh, both cooks at wedding functions, completed their work at an event in Sultanpur Dabas. They packed some leftover food and boarded an RTV bus to return home. During the journey, some food accidentally spilt onto a seat, enraging the driver and his two associates.
While Dinesh was allowed to get off the bus at Bawana Chowk, Manoj was prevented from leaving. The driver and his accomplices forced Manoj to clean the spilt food with his shirt. The situation escalated when they began abusing and physically assaulting him. One of the assailants reportedly used a rod to inflict injuries on Manoj's private parts. When Manoj lost consciousness, they dumped his body near the Bawana flyover and fled the scene.
A passerby discovered Manoj's body on February 2, and a PCR call was made to the local police station. Initially, there were no visible injuries, and the body was preserved for post-mortem examination. The autopsy, conducted on February 5, revealed multiple internal injuries and trauma to the private parts, indicating a violent assault.
Through local inquiries, the police identified Manoj and traced his movements on the night of the incident. They learned about the altercation on the bus and identified the suspects involved. One of the accused, Sushant Sharma, also known as Chutkuli, a 24-year-old resident of Narela, Delhi, has been arrested. The driver and another accomplice are currently absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
A senior police official stated, "We are committed to ensuring the safety of passengers on public transport. This heinous act will not go unpunished. We urge the public to report any suspicious activities and assure them that strict action will be taken against those responsible."
