A man who entered the women’s washroom fired at a guard while trying to escape from a hospital and hit a patient in Bihar’s Siwan district, said officials on Tuesday.
The incident occurred just after a criminal named Saddam Hussain surrendered in court today, prompting the police to bring him to the hospital for a medical checkup. Authorities suspect that the individual who shot at the guard may have intended to kill Saddam Hussain.
The hospital security guard spotted the shooter, Arbaaz Alam, entering the women’s washroom and attempted to stop him.
Before entering the washroom, Alam had walked down the corridor with a handgun in open sight.
When Alam resisted the guard’s effort to prevent him from fleeing, the guard swung his baton and struck Alam, said police, adding that Alam then fled the hospital, with the guard chasing after him.
Chaos erupted outside the hospital when Alam opened fire at the guard, which missed and hit a patient, identified as Alok Tiwari.
Tiwari was rushed to the hospital for treatment, said officials.
Additional guards stationed at the hospital gate joined the chase, and together they were able to catch the suspect. According to the police, Alam was quickly handed over to them, with two bullets and a motorcycle recovered from him.
