The Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 is making history earning widespread praise from audience across the globe. Helmed by Yang Yu (also known as Jiaozi) the film has broken records by becoming the first Chinese film to exceed 10 billion yuan (roughly $1.37 billion) in worldwide earnings including its presales. Ne Zha 2 has shattered box office records in China to become the countrys most successful film ever. It is the first non-Hollywood film to surpass $1 billion in a single market. As soon as the tickets of the films were out they sold immediately reflecting excitement among international moviegoers. Inspired by the classic Chinese myth Ne Zha 2 follows a young deity who challenges his fate using his supernatural abilities to defend his people from powerful enemies. This is a sequel to the 2019 original which was a record-breaking success for Chinese animation. The film has set a record for the highest number of viewership drawing over 160 million viewers to the theatres. Premiered on January 29 during the Chinese New Year Holiday it quickly defeated Wolf Warrior 2 to become Chinas most-watched film. By Sunday its total earning had reached 8 billion yuvan (approximately $1.12 billion). Chinese audiences have embraced the film as it is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Many support it as a way to promote domestic animation and share Chinese heritage with the global audience. Ne Zha 2s success is viewed as a hopeful sign for the Chinese film industry which faced quite a decline in their revenues in 2024. In comparison the 2025 Spring Festival Holiday has brought a major box office success with its total earnings exceeding 9.5 billion yuan.
